3 Day Refresh

I told you all I was going to start on this fitness journey and boy am I serious about it. Cue Bruno – Don’t believe me just watch!!

So to start my journey and just refresh my body (haha see what I did there?) I started the 3 day refresh cleanse. I’ve never done a cleanse before so I’m not going to lie I was a little scared. Am I going to be in the bathroom all the time? Am I going to be hungry all the time? Will I die? Why are Doritos not on this plan!? Despite all this, I’m determined to get in the best shape of my life so I started it!

Day 1

The start of day 1 was pretty easy. I don’t eat too much during the day anyway and am a huge late night snacker so morning and afternoon were fine. I didn’t mind the taste of the fiber sweep drink, not going to go on the record saying I loved it and would drink it if it wasn’t part of this, but I was able to tolerate it and it didn’t suck.

Now the cleanse says not to do alot of exercising and I planned to follow it. WELL, I decided to mow the lawn and that took alot out of me especially because it took an hour and it was around 90 degrees. I had a slight headache but that went a while pretty quickly. Now I tried the optional vegetable broth for dinner (see below for what I ate each day) that’s where things took a turn for the worse. It did not agree with me and I felt sick to my stomach, combine that with craving anything and everything and it was not a fun night! I did sneak a couple pieces of Jake’s steamed broccoli and grapes to get me through all those cravings and it helped a ton!

Overall, it was not bad, I wasn’t hungry throughout the day or night and really just let me head get the best of me with cravings.

Yup! That’s my cat photo bombing!

Day 2

I feel like day 2 was harder than day 1! The day was pretty easy, no sickness so I attribute it to the vegetable broth I had. Really the nights are the only thing that have bothered me so far in this journey.  I would normally have dinner and then snack my way until bedtime so cravings are off the charts tonight! I do feel less bloated which is awesome.

Day 3

Again mornings and afternoons are no big deal! Today I had to go to work, back to work from having a week off yikes!! The evening was actually no big deal for me today! I didn’t have any cravings, wasn’t hungry, actually had some energy! I really had to second guess myself and ask if I cheated but I swear I didn’t! All that hard for for the last two days paid off and today was a piece of cake!

Results!

After 3 days I lost 3.8 pounds and 5 inches total. This is amazing and such a great jump start to my new fitness journey! I am definitely less bloated, my pants fit me better, and I have some energy I didn’t have before, no caffeine and I’m doing good!
I would recommend this for someone that has a strong will and really wants to get this jump start. If you are not 100% in, it won’t work, you will fail. Have your reason and stick to it! When you want that pizza remind yourself that it’s only 3 days and that you can do it!

Work Life Balance So You Can Stay Sane!

Oh man, can I just tell you this is a HUGE work in progress for me! It took me a couple years into my first career to realize that I could leave at 5pm, which equals a 8 hour day! I still struggle with not checking emails from my phone at night or on the weekends. It has been a lot easier to leave the office now that I have my daughter. Mostly because I have to pick her up from daycare.

Change the way your phone works.

Turn off notifications on your emails this way you have control on when you check your emails, you won’t get that ding or that annoying notification number on your home screen. Move the email app to another folder not on your home screen. This combined with turning off my notifications has helped me tremendously. You have to make a conscious effort to swipe to the next screen click into your work folder and check your email instead of work constantly being in your face.

Set a schedule

If you are salary and STICK TO IT. This can be extremely difficult if you are salary or own your own business. Set your schedule and stick to it, make sure that your staff know that you do not work after a certain time. If you need to be on call in case of emergencies ensure that everyone is clear on what constitutes an emergency.

Know your worth

Know that it will be okay if you leave on time, your job will be safe. Have confidence in your staff that they will be fine without you, but so be confident in yourself. If your boss is requiring your to constantly work past normal hours rethink if that job is for you. I understand that not every career allows for the 9-5, sometimes you need to work later but if you are supposed to work 9-5 and consistently are overworking yourself you ned to step back and figure out if it is a good use of your time. Are you getting more done working more hours or are you stressing yourself out?

Have hobbies outside of work

This will allow you to take your mind off of work. Start a blog, join a gym, start a garden, do something other than think about work on your off time! Sometimes you need to take a break and recharge to do a better job.

Separate your social media from work

If your job is like mine you need to be on social media for your job, it sucks that you have to link your personal Facebook with your works page but you can set up pages so that way you can check your work social media during office hours. Put that app in your work folder you have created.

I would love to hear what you have done to help keep your work life balance.

Kick Pop(Soda) to the Curb!!

Stir together lime juice and agave nectar-add to a blender, along with pineapplejuice, pineapple, triple sec, tequila, and ice. Blend until frothy.Okay let’s start off right now, whether you call it pop, soda, or coke it’s not good for you! I say that as someone who would have 3 or 4 pops a day…. okay probably like 5 or 6 😉 Kicking the addiction… and it is an addition… is not easy. I can’t even count how many times I have tried to stop but I finally did it!
Now there are a couple ways you can do this. I have tried them all and here is what worked for me and what didn’t!

Quit Cold Turkey

This one pretty much sucks at first! The first day you might be thinking to your self hey! This is a piece of cake! But then the next day you get hit with a pounding migraine and the next day and the next which is what used to happen to me all the time. But if you can hold out for just a couple days and drink TONs of water I promise it gets better!! The headaches go away and eventually you don’t miss soda!

Replace the temptation

Switch out your favorite soda for something more healthy! Whether it is tea, flavored and/sparkling water, or juice. Something to replace the soda with so now you have the flavor that water lacks. This can help you not miss soda as much. Yes I moved to Missouri so pop and soda are now interchangeable for me! Sorry!!! I did find this way helpful especially having a go to when eating out at fast food chains or other places where pop is the number one drink of choice. That is always the temptation for me going up with my cup trying to decide and fight the urge to just get the Dr. Pepper! Thankfully we really do not go out to eat a lot, but if you are someone who does try asking for a tea instead!

Slowly cut back

This never worked for me to be honest. To do this all you have to do is exactly what the title says, slowly cut back. If you normally have 2 sodas at lunch cut that down to just two and replace the other with water. Doing this will help the transition as well because eventually you will completely take out the soda from your diet and all the will remain is water.
Once you have eliminated pop from your diet you might be craving it but wait it out!! I can’t say that enough wait it out!! Your cravings will subside and you won’t even miss it! I promise! The say it takes 21 days for something to become a habit! I got to a point where pop just did not taste good to me at all. I relapsed at one point and wanted a soda for dinner, took a sip, and told myself NOPE! It just didn’t taste good, it tasted nasty, sugary, and syrupy!
